Fabric Rectangle Cut Layout and Yardage Planner
Estimate a simple row layout and purchase length for one repeated rectangular fabric piece.
Piece and fabric inputs
Enter usable width after excluding any selvedge you will not cut. The same seam allowance is added to every side.
Estimated cut plan
Purchase length is always rounded upward; the exact layout length remains visible separately.
- Exact required length
- Row layout
- Cut piece size
- Used cut-piece area
- Layout waste

How the estimate works
Cut width is finished width plus twice the seam allowance. Cut length is finished length plus twice the seam allowance.
Pieces per row = floor((usable width + cut gap) ÷ (cut width + cut gap))
Exact length = rows × cut length + gaps between rows
All geometry is normalized to millimetres without calculation rounding. If rotation is allowed, both orientations are evaluated; the lower exact length wins, and an exact tie stays unrotated. Only the displayed values and the upward purchase-increment boundary are rounded.
Scope and assumptions
This model handles one repeated identical rectangle in a simple row layout. It assumes your dimensions, seam allowance, cut gap, usable width, quantity, rotation choice, and purchase increment are correct.
- It does not handle grain matching or directional prints beyond the rotation lock.
- It does not handle shrinkage, defects, or selvedge beyond the entered usable width.
- It does not handle irregular shapes, mixed pieces, or cutting precision.
- It does not claim globally optimal industrial nesting.
Planning boundary: This is a fabric estimate based only on your inputs, not professional or industrial advice. Verify the layout against the actual material before buying or cutting.
Check before you cut
Measure the usable fabric, confirm print direction, and test your seam and gap assumptions on the actual material.
